Woza Nazo Shootout gets first female winner

Nandipha Booi cheered and ululated into the sky night over the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium as she discovered she had just won a whopping R100 000 in the Woza Nazo Shootout competition, held at halftime during the Chippa United and Mamelodi Sundowns game.

The match was the second Absa Premiership Woza Nazo match for the 2019/20 season and ended in a draw when Chippa United equalized towards the end of the game.

The 31-year-old Uber driver, became the first ever female winner of the consumer and fan competition and took home the prize, fittingly during Women’s Month.

“I’m over the moon as football is something I have always been passionate about. I can’t even describe my excitement at winning this prize at the moment,” she said.

Booi, has played the game at the highest level having represented the popular Cape Town Roses ladies team and has a single Banyana Banyana cap to her name. She used this experience to make the correct decision when taking the penalty against former Absa Premiership goalkeeper Tshepo Motsoeneng last night.

“I had a strong feeling that if I remain composed, I’ll score the penalty kick as the other ladies were rushing and kept missing theirs. The prize came at the right time as I needed more cash to complete the refurbishment of my mother’s house in Walmer. I will also finish paying off my little brother’s school fees and invest some of the winnings as well.

I’m delighted about this prize and thank the league sponsors Absa for what it’s doing for its customers and passionate football fans like us”, she concluded.

The Woza Nazo Shootout is the new and exciting consumer and fan competition introduced by Absa in place of the Kick for a Million competition, which took place over the past two Absa Premiership seasons. On match day, five Absa customers will be brought to the pitch to kick against a legendary Absa Premiership goalkeeper in a sudden death competition until there is only one winner.

The next Woza Nazo match will be at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, 14 September, when SuperSport United welcome Cape Town City.  The third Woza Nazo Shootout competition will also take place that afternoon during halftime.
