We don’t honour our heroes as South Africans

South African football fans are buying Barcelona-Sundowns clash tickets like hot cakes. I’m still wondering if Cape Town Stadium will be filled to capacity during Nedbank Cup on the 19th May.

But I wouldn’t be surprised if I see empty seats because it’s our theme not to treasure our own precious own heroes. No wonder Lucas Radebe is much celebrated icon far away into the streets of Leeds in England but not here?

Radebe is recognised there through his dedication, discipline and his leadership skills along with hometown heroes like Nicole Adams (first women boxer to win gold medal at the Olympic games).

The time England football national team was humiliated in front of their home fans in 2007, failing to win a crucial 2008 UEFA championship game against Croatia, their fans never lost faith in it. Have you ever seen an empty stadium while they playing?

But Bafana Bafana failed to qualify for 2018 FIFA World Cup but fans boycott stating they won’t show up in national team games. As South Africans we don’t honour our heroes.
