Pule and Mlambo join adidas as brand ambassadors

Orlando Pirates midfield maestros Vincent Pule and Xola Mlambo have been announced as the latest brand ambassadors for adidas, joining the likes of Daniel Cardoso, Khama Billiat, Thulani Hlatshwayo and Lyle Foster in the sports apparel giant’s stable.

Pule and Mlambo have already been wearing adidas kit for some time, thanks to the company’s sponsorship of AmaBhakaBhaka, but the new deal will see them featuring as stars of adidas campaigns in the local market. Globally, they join a star-studded roster that includes Lionel Messi, Paul Pogba and Mohammed Salah.

Bob Maphosa, sports marketing manager at adidas Africa, said being chosen as an adidas ambassador was as much a reflection of a how a player carries himself off the field as his on-field performance.

“We’ve got close to 1,5 million registered football players in South Africa, who are all talented in their own right. Making the cut in the PSL shows an added level of discipline, dedication and commitment to the game. But what we are looking for as a brand are players who stand out both on and off the field – and Vincent and Xola live the brand to the fullest,” said Maphosa.

“adidas is the number one football brand in the world, and the best players the world over are proud to be associated with us,” added Maphosa.

Maphosa says adidas has a strong focus on helping local athletes make a difference to their games, their lives and their communities. “Through sport, we have the power to change lives, particularly on our continent,” he said. “Our partnership with athletes like Vincent and Xola play a strong role in taking our message around the transformative power of sport to millions of young South Africans.”

Orlando Pirates Midfielder, Xolani Mlambo needs to play the ball close to his feet and this lead him to choose a pair of Predators. As master of control, adidas signed him up as the 2019 face of the brand in Africa.

New face of adidas 2019, Vincent Pule needs to be quick agile in play; his choice of lightweight adidas X18 boots will help him to do his job for Orlando Pirates. While stamina and vision are vital on the field, these boots complement Vincent’s need for speed, great footwork and strength.
