The South African Football Association (SAFA) have confirmed that former referee Ian Mcleod has sadly passed away.
SAFA announced on Twitter that McLeod, 63, who became the first local official to referee a match at the FIFA World Cup, had been admitted to hospital last week and had passed away.
“Former top referee Ian McLeod has passed away. He was admitted in hospital last week & sadly passed on this evening.
May his soul RIP,” SAFA announced.
