Raw talent to be polished at COPA Coca-Cola camp

Following a highly successful COPA Coca-Cola National Finals held in the windy city of Port Elizabeth last month, the COPA Coca-Cola Scouts wrapped up their Future Stars squad selection with a total of 15 aspiring footballers from all corners of the country selected.

The week-long training camp set to take place at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria between 23 and 28 October will see the identified talent from across the country being taken through their paces by COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars talent selectors, Simba Marumo and Jabulani Mendu who have travelled the lengths and breaths of South Africa in search of exceptional talent during the school’s tournament that kicked off in June this year.

After catching the eyes of the COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars Camp talent scouts, the identified players will have a unique opportunity to impress local PSL and NFD club academies such as Bidvest Wits and AmaTuks in friendly matches that have been organised as part of the camp.

Outside of this extended effort of grooming the players, Coca-Cola has pulled out all the stops to ensure that the youngsters are also holistically developed into professional footballers, with a number of personal skills development activities planned for the youngsters. These include in-depth engagement sessions with South Africa’s top football professionals on topics such as player contracts, sports nutrition, sports psychology as well as media training.

Speaking ahead of the camp, COPA Coca-Cola ambassador, Jabu Mahlangu who will be present at the camp alongside Marumo and Mendu said: “I am looking forward to working with these players and urge them to take this opportunity seriously as it may open doors to their prospective football careers.”

“Working closely with the team of talent scouts, we are happy with the 15 players we selected from across the country and we believe they will one day become professional footballers. Selecting these players was certainly not an easy task, purely based on the fact that there was a lot of talent at the tournament. During this camp, we plan on sharing as much information and experience with them and hope that they will utilise this unique opportunity provided by Coca-Cola which I strongly believe will open doors for them” said Mahlangu.
