Nike Academy faced off with Pimville West Ham F.C

Season 2 of the Nike Academy is well underway with the new squad already having taken to the pitch in their first round of competitive football against Pimville West Ham F.C on September 21.

Played at the Nike Football Training Centre in Soweto, the Academy team drew 2-2 with the Soweto-based team.

Head coach for Nike Academy, Arthur Zwane, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance on the field.

“When it comes to performance we were happy. Although there’s still a lot of improvement needed, they did very well and scored two goals.” says Zwane.

“We wanted to test their character as well as observe whether they can play at a level of the SAB league and the likes, as that is what we are preparing them for. Going forward we will get them to compete against a stronger team so that we can also take them to another level.”

The squad will continue with the intensive pro-level training for the remaining eight weeks under the expert guidance of Zwane and his Nike Academy coaching team including assistant coaches, Stanton Fredricks, Cyril Nzama, Percy Moloi, Abram Moeketsi Montoya, and goal-keeper coach Rory Minaar.
