I write to express my huge disappointment regarding Orlando Pirates bowing out of the CAF Champions League.
It was not going to be easy to beat Horoya AC in their own backyard and Pirates went there knowing that they had made a huge blunder by not previously defeating FC Platinum on home soil. As was to be expected, Horoya put Bucs under pressure on Saturday.
Truth be told, Wayne Sandilands was a pillar of strength as he made crucial saves from all angles. As usual, the team got clear-cut chances on the day, which they failed to convert and so the blame lies squarely on their feet.
And yet again, they failed to defend their goalposts. The second goal showed that Pirates still have a challenge defensively because their marking was bad.
Otherwise, we appreciate their effort to have gone so far in this competition and one hopes they have learned a lesson or two.
