Gauteng plays host to COPA Coca-Cola Provincial Finals

The list of schools to qualify for the COPA Coca-Cola National Finals is starting to take shape and it is Gauteng’s turn to provide the winning school to represent the province as the Gauteng Provincial Finals take place at the Bram Fischer Sports Complex in Soweto on Saturday, 5 August 2017. The Provincial Finals are scheduled to kickoff at 9am.

To date, Provincial winners from the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape of the renowned COPA Coca-Cola U15 Football Tournament, have already been determined.

Last year’s Gauteng Provincial Finals winners, Rosina Sedibane-Modiba High School, have already been knocked out in the Regional phase this year and thus will not defend their title. Eight schools from the Province that have made it through from the Regional playoffs will battle it out for a spot in the National Finals taking place from 29 September – 1 October, where the last team standing will be crowned the 2017 COPA Coca-Cola champions.

The much-loved Provincial Finals, also sees the continuation of the successful Which Part Will You Play initiative. The project sees a Which Part Will You Play all-stars team made up of well-rounded young South Africans with immense talent carrying values young footballers should aspire to. This team will be selected by a COPA Coca-Cola judging panel, headed by Simba Marumo the ambassador of the COPA Coca-Cola Which Part Will You Play search. Simba Marumo will be present throughout the day on Saturday.

Clapham High School, 2015 champions of the COPA Coca-Cola tournament, are favourites to be crowned Gauteng Provincial champions, together with the Tuks Academy and SAFA Transnet Sport School of Excellence.
