Future Stars taken through Sports Nutrition importance

There was more learning and information sharing in Day 2 of the COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars camp currently taking place at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria.

The week-long training camp spearheaded by COPA Coca-Cola talent scouts, Simba Marumo, Jabulani Mendu and Selekedi Mogale kicked off on Tuesday, 23 October and will conclude this coming Saturday, 27 October.

The second day of the camp saw Sports Nutritionist, Gabrielle Jackson taking the boys through the importance maintaining a healthy lifestyle from a young age. Amongst other things, Jackson emphasised how a healthy diet can in the long run impact the overall development and performance of a footballer.

“We dwelled a lot on the importance of a healthy diet, with a strong focus on the fundamentals of healthy eating and the effect it has on performance. We also emphasised the fact that when competing and playing regular sport, it is important for their bodies to have the correct and sufficient fuel (Food). If you not putting the right nutrients into the body, the effects are that you won’t get optimum performance which will also have a negative effect on growth” said Jackson.

Following an insightful session on Sports Nutrition, it was back to the field for the talented crop as they faced off against the AmaTuks U15 side in a highly competitive match that went 1-0 in favour of the Future Stars team.

Speaking after the match, Future Stars coach Simba Marumo said he was impressed with how the boys were able to implement his tactics in such a short period of time.

“I am very impressed with how they implemented the tactics considering the fact that we’ve only had them in camp for a day. AmaTuks is a very good team with access to quality training facilities and good nutrition. However, our boys were able to match them in every department and even got a result which is something to be really proud of” said Marumo.

The COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars Camp continues at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria and will conclude on Saturday, 27 October. The boys will be up against Kaizer Chiefs development on Friday.
