The Mogwase Stadium in Rustenburg will play host to this weekend’s COPA Coca-Cola Provincial Finals, as the globally acclaimed youth tournament heads to its sixth province this year.
After another successful weekend of COPA Coca-Cola football this past weekend in Polokwane, the focus will now shift to the talent rich province of the North West.
Four schools will compete for the honour of representing the North West province in next month’s COPA Coca-Cola National Finals, which will be taking place in Durban between 18 and 21 September 2019.
Botlhabelo, Seiphemelo, Sol Plaatjie as well as Sebitwane Secondary School will get an opportunity represent their respective regions and compete for a place at the COPA Coca-Cola National Finals.
Outside of the exciting football expected on Saturday, teenagers and fans in attendance will have the opportunity to interact and dance to the sounds of hip hop artist, DJ Speedsta, during the tournament lunch break.
The popular hit maker has been travelling around the country with Coca-Cola®, collecting sound bites from teenagers to be incorporated into this year’s COPA Coca-Cola anthem titled “Champions”.
Also in attendance this weekend will be COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars scouts, Jabulani Mendu, Simba Marumo and Selekedi Mogale. The scouts will be accompanied by the tournament’s ambassador, Lucky Lekgwathi who will be sharing his playing experience and encouraging the youngsters on the day.
The three scouts are travelling to each COPA Coca-Cola Provincial Finals to hand pick talented players who will be attended a week-long camp in Johannesburg. The camp will see Coca-Cola giving the invited players first-hand experience of life as a professional athlete through invited sport industry experts and coaches.
“The talent on display has been remarkable, which has given us as a wide variety of talented players to choose from. The COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars camp will play a crucial and long-term role for the selected players. Just like last year, we want to expose them to the latest trends of football and ensure that they are adequately prepared should an opportunity for them to play professionally come their way,” said COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars scout, Jabulani Mendu.
