COPA Coca-Cola heads to talent rich KZN Province

The King Zwelithini Stadium in uMlazi will play host to this weekend’s KwaZulu-Natal COPA Coca-Cola Provincial Finals on Saturday, 24 August.

Twelve schools from the various KZN regions will compete for the honour of representing their province at next month’s COPA Coca-Cola National Finals, where the cream of the crop of school’s football will be on display.

The Coca-Cola sponsored tournament has travelled to six provinces over the last two months, affording teenagers from all corners of the country a unique opportunity to showcase their talent.

The action heads to the talent rich province of KZN, with more exciting football expected on the day. In addition to the fun-filled day, teenagers will once again have the opportunity to showcase their musical talent with this year’s COPA Coca-Cola anthem by DJ Speedsta.

The COPA Coca-Cola anthem will see teenagers having an opportunity to have their voices recorded by the award-winning DJ and incorporated into the final version of this year’s anthem titled “Champions”.

Also, in attendance in Umlazi this weekend will be the three COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars scouts, Jabulani Mendu, Simba Marumo and Selekedi Mogale.

The three talent scouts will be on the lookout for talented youngsters who will be invited to the week-long COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars camp, where they will receive further training and advice in relation to their journey of becoming professional footballers.

Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated Provincial Finals, COPA Coca-Cola Future Stars camp scout, Jabulani Mendu said they were looking forward to seeing what the province will have in store for them.

“KwaZulu-Natal always lives up to expectations when it comes to football talent. While we encourage youngsters to play their hearts out, it is important that they also practise the tournament’s values of creating friendship, fair-play and sportsmanship. These characteristics form part of our selection criteria as scouts which are characteristics that can also live outside the football pitch,” said Mendu.
