Legends ready to implement project management skills

Following an insightful two days of skills training, Banyana Banyana legends, Fikile Sithole and Sibongile Khumalo are confident that their newly acquired skills in Project Management will be beneficial to implement at their respective community clubs.

Sithole and Khumalo are part of the ten selected legends taking part in the inaugural Betway 12th Man programme currently being rolled out by the sport betting company in partnership with Lucas Radebe who recently celebrated his 50th birthday.

The third workshop of the 6-month programme concluded at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday, 13 April in a live match between Supersport United and Polokwane City. This was no ordinary trip to the stadium for the former footballers, who were required to take notes on various Project Management aspects that come into play ahead of a professional football match.

Important elements such as safety and security, ticketing, marketing and broadcast were some of the various touchpoints that the legends were exposed to as part of their project management module.

With legends such as Steven Sekano and Maimane Phiri conducting annual tournaments in their communities, the project management module has become an added benefit to the former footballers.

Speaking after the highly informative learning experience, Banyana Banyana legend Fikile Sithole who coaches a Sowetan club alongside her Betway 12th Man partner, Sibongile Khumalo said the experience would certainly help them in their future endeavors which include starting a football academy one day.

“The past three months have been quite informative for us and the learning experience continues to be useful. Even though we have different activities that we conduct as legends, there are traits of project management in each of those activities and it was great to be part of this. We are planning on starting a football academy for girls one day and such skills will really come in handy” said Sithole.

The legends will return for their final module next month where they will refine their coaching skills in a SAFA/KNVB D License coaching course. The entry level coaching course will equip the former footballers with tried and tested methods of effective coaching at youth level.
