Absa Premiership ‘Woza Nazo’ returns to Soweto

Orlando Pirates host Kaizer Chiefs in one of the biggest games on the African football calendar, the historical Soweto Derby rivalry fixture, at the FNB Stadium this Saturday, 3 March.

Both Soweto clubs head into the Absa Premiership ‘Woza Nazo’ clash still in with a chance to win the title at the end of the season in May. Second-placed Pirates trail leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by four points while Chiefs are five points behind. Both teams remain in the hunt and a strong finish to the season, starting with a Derby victory, would see either side take the Brazilians down to the wire in the Absa Premiership title race.

Pirates and Chiefs have enjoyed considerable success in this fixture which both teams can attribute to their rich history and dominance of the local game in the last four decades. They have had their share of missed opportunities however with their recent form it can be anticipated that both teams will seek to triumph over their rival.

Chiefs are going through the longest period in the club’s 48-year history without a trophy as they close in on a third season without success. Their last piece of silverware was the Absa Premiership at the end of the 2014/15 season. Pirates last won a trophy in 2014. This was their only trophy success in the last six years since they also lifted the Absa Premiership in the 2011/12 campaign.

With lots at stake on the field of play, the action is set to heat up as sponsors of the Absa Premiership, Absa, continues what has been a thrilling Woza Nazo campaign of rivarly matches. The Woza Nazo brand campaign draws on the loyalty and passion that players and supporters have for the beautiful game, their teams, and encourages everyone to improve their game and strive for excellence.
