A Pep talk for Manchester City

Manchester City is on a roll and currently looks unstoppable in the English Premier League. They are sitting pretty at the top of the log and still unbeaten this season.

Yesterday they took the scalp of their bitter rivals Manchester United and they did it in style at Old Trafford for good measure. In doing so they set a new Premier League record of going fourteen consecutive games unbeaten. The previous one of thirteen games was held jointly by Arsenal and Manchester United.

With the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Ilkay Gündogan, David Silva and Nicolas Otamendi in the form of their lives one cannot help but wonder who will stop them this season?

The manner in which they took out Jose Mourinho’s Red Devils on their home ground was just unbelievable. They took on a United side that demolished Arsenal 3-1 at the Emirates stadium and basically play them off the pitch. A combination of exquisite passing, dribbling and pace ensured that the “Red Bus” that Mourinho so love to park, was not a factor in the game.

Playing winning football is amazing for any supporter but to do it in style like Pep Guardiola’s side is doing is what every football lover is dreaming of. Pep’s philosophy of football is amazingly enjoyable to watch. He believes that every footballer on the pitch must comfortable with the ball at his feet and that includes the goalkeeper.

In order to solve his goalkeeper woes of the past season Pep did not shy away from paying big money to bring in Ederson and he is already reaping the rewards for this. Ederson [Santana de Moraes] is certainly one of the best buys in the English Premier League this season and he has definitely brought solidity to the goalkeeping department. His confidence on the ball reminds one of Manuel Neuer whom Pep turned into the best keeper whilst he was coaching Bayern Munich.

The effect that Pep has on De Bruyne is unbelievable. Jose Mourinho once sold De Bruyne to VfL Wolfsburg when he coached Chelsea. Suddenly KDB is, arguably, the most effective attacking midfielder in the EPL.

He dishes up top notch performances week in and week out. When Pep found Otamendi at City, the player was probably the weakest link in the teams rear-guard. He has suddenly transformed into a monster in that defence and is the leader at the back. Sterling was always regarded as a talent but never reached his full potential until now that he is under the master called Pep.

It is too early to say that Man City is definitely winning the league as stranger things have happened before. However, fact that Pep has built a balanced team that is playing a brand of football that is breath-taking whilst getting the results, it is hard to see them not winning it.

One thing is for sure though Manchester City is in for new heights with the master tactician called Pep Guardiola at the helm.
